Super-special ep as we talk to HYNDEN WALCH, the voice of Princess Bubblegum, with a focus on the Season 2 eps “Go With Me” and “The Real You!”

LEARN: Hynden on auditioning for the role, what it’s like working with the actors, explaining DMT to young Jeremy Shada and THE REAL DEAL with PB and Marceline, which I’m sharing here to get people to reblog this, as it’s a large fan base and I want to exploit that for my own gain.

This is how Hynden plays it – it’s not gospel, as she points out, but it’s the backstory she’s put together about the REAL DEAL with PB and Marceline:

“So yeah, I got all that fan-tweeting and whatnot as well, and asked that question all the time at conventions, so I asked, ’Kent, Pen, what is the deal here? (laughs) What is their relationship?’ And so what they told me, along with a mix of what I’m choosing to believe is that Marceline has a Peter Pan thing. She doesn’t want to ever grow up, even though she’s a thousand years old. And she likes hanging out with kids – therefore, she likes hanging out with Finn.

“So the history goes – again, this is just something that’s hints and speculations, including from the creators of the show (laughs) – that Marceline and PB were very good friends when Bubblegum was just a little girl, which of course was many, many hundreds of years ago.

“And what happened was that Bubblegum grew up, fast, because she had to rule over the Candy Kingdom. And as soon as she became a grownup, or even started acting like one, Marceline didn’t want anything to do with her anymore. So, therefore, Bubblegum has all these abandonment issues, and it’s also a reason why she won’t ever let anyone really get close to her ever again, because her first, and best friend left her. Isn’t that sad?”
